What people want to know.

  • Q: Why do I need an editor?
  • A: Writers pour their hearts and souls into their writing. It’s hard work. Like other creative people, we are very close to our work and it is difficult to remain objective. An editor will give you that objectivity. You can read and re-read your manuscript a dozen times over and still never find that missing comma, or fix that awkward phrase that sounded so great in your head but fell flat on the page. You need a fresh set of eyes. I will be by your side to help you make your work the best it can be.
  • Q: What is your specialty?
  • A: I would say science fiction, fantasy, and horror, since I read and write primarily in those genres. I do like to broaden my horizons by reading and writing in other genres from time to time, though.
  • Q: Do you work on fan fiction?
  • A: Yes! When someone writes fan fiction, they are expressing their love of a franchise and its characters, and when they love something, they want to participate in it and share it with like-minded individuals. I will help you polish your fan fiction so you can share your tribute to the fandom with the community at large.
  • Q: Do you work on children’s books?
  • A: Yes! I have edited several. I enjoy working on children’s literature. Not only is it fun, but it makes me happy to know I am helping to bring the joy of reading to future generations.
  • Q: How about poetry?
  • A: No, sorry. I don’t feel I’m qualified to edit poetry at this time. If your book contains a small amount of poetry or song lyrics, that’s fine, but I will decline to work on individual poems or poetry collections. I feel it would be a grave disservice to the author in those cases if I were to break something.
  • Q: I am concerned about the confidentiality of my work. Will you sign an NDA?
  • A: Yes. If you require me to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, I will gladly do so.
  • Q: What’s your accuracy rate?
  • A: My accuracy with a single editing pass is about 97%. With a second pass, it is over 99%, approaching 100%. Naturally, I cannot guarantee perfection, but I do my best to ensure your work is readable and free of errors.
  • Q: Will you send me a file with tracked changes?
  • A: Yes. I can also send you a clean Word document with all changes accepted, so that you can easily compare the two. I will provide a separate file containing notes and comments as well.
  • Q: Does this increase my chances of being accepted for publication with Mannison Press?
  • A: No. If you hire me to edit your work, and you later submit the story to Mannison Press for publication, your chances of being accepted are exactly the same as everyone else’s. Further, Mannison Press will never charge their contracted authors for any editing, formatting, or cover design for accepted works.
  • Q: Will you edit web content and blogs? How about book reviews?
  • A: Yes, I will edit web content and blogs. The basic rates are the same as for other types of content, but may differ if you have special requirements. Contact me about your project and we’ll discuss what you need. As for book reviews: yes, I will edit book reviews, but I will not edit book reviews for any of Mannison Press’s publications. It would be a conflict of interest.
